Puentes Immigrant Legal and Community Resources (Puentes) is a campus-community initiative that aims to close the justice gap for immigrants in Santa Cruz county.  We believe in fair, just, and humane treatment, inclusion, and dignity for all community members. Puentes is a member of the Sanctuary Santa Cruz network

What we do

We collaborate with regional legal providers  and community organizations, and with other UCSC student groups and and campus programs to train, support, and connect those who are working to expand the means of community-based assistance and defense, strengthening our regional professional network and graduate pipeline as well as our capacity for justice.  Our projects focus on the many ways accurate information in safe spaces for mutual exchange can empower people to make decisions for themselves. Our current areas of action are: Developing a year-round community engagement program to train and place students at sites providing legal case intake; developing a student-initiated organization through SOAR; and developing the capacity for community-based immigration clinics for empowerment and action, with an annual campus-community networking fair and a promotor-style approach to outreach on and off campus.
